Traveling with your feline friend is not that stressful. For those who love to travel with their animals, traveling via RV is their best option, although a lot of things needs to be considered. Unlike a dog, most cats are not born as a traveler, so you might have to adjust with their behavior. However, if you have experience bringing your pet for a drive and he acts behave during the whole trip then take it as an advantage.

If your planning to bring your cat for your next road trip, a trip to the veterinarian for a medical check up is a must. This will ensure your cat’s safety while on the road. Your cat’s health is your priority. As much as possible you want it to be comfortable with your RV lifestyle. So, if your feline friend is a first time traveler you can help him prepare by sleeping in your RV for a night or two, a week before the trip. You may also consider investing in a pet carrier. Cats are prone to jump around, hide in small compartments and will likely roam around the vehicle. To make the carrier his very own haven, put a warm blanket and some of his favorite toys on the carriage to help your pet adapt easier to the new environment. As soon as the cat will find it’s own favorite spot, he’ll likely to stay there during the whole trip. Another good practice when traveling with cat is to observe proper hygiene. This will help eliminate the dreaded falling cat hair all over your vehicle. Never leave a door or window open unless you know where your pet is. Make sure that your vehicle is properly ventilated. Never leave your cat in the vehicle if the AC is not working. Poor indoor temperature can affect you and your cat’s health.

During stopovers, open the door and let your cat out for some exercise or a small walk, you may also let him have a snack. Never leave your cat unattended and make sure your cat is wearing a collar tag with your name and phone number just in case he wanders off or get lost. Beforehand, familiarize your cat with a leash. Don’t expect your cat to behave like a dog and follow you instantly. Practice makes perfect. Be patient, as soon as your cat realize that he doesn’t have any choice he will begin to follow you around with the leash. You can also set up a portable fence outside your vehicle. This will allow your cat to roam freely but with your supervision. Lastly, treat your cat as your travel buddy not just a pet you bring along for a vacation. Cuddle and talk to him. Enjoy outdoor activities with your feline friend. Your cat may not act like a man’s best friend but it can be your best travel bud on the road.
