Want to take your cat on a road trip, but have never done before except for a trip to the vet. What do you need to prepare for traveling with your cat?

Here’s an article by Andy Miles that puts some lights on what to consider when planning a road trip with your cat

Your Feline on the Road

By Andy Miles

Traveling with your feline friend is not that stressful. For those who love to travel with their animals, traveling via RV is their best option, although a lot of things needs to be considered. Unlike a dog, most cats are not born as a traveler, so you might have to adjust with their behavior. However, if you have experience bringing your pet for a drive and he acts behave during the whole trip then take it as an advantage.

If your planning to bring your cat for your next road trip, a trip to the veterinarian for a medical check up is a must. This will ensure your cat’s safety while on the road. Your cat’s health is your priority. As much as possible you want it to be comfortable with your RV lifestyle. So, if your feline friend is a first time traveler you can help him prepare by sleeping in your RV for a night or two, a week before the trip. You may also consider investing in a pet carrier. Cats are prone to jump around, hide in small compartments and will likely roam around the vehicle. To make the carrier his very own haven, put a warm blanket and some of his favorite toys on the carriage to help your pet adapt easier to the new environment. As soon as the cat will find it’s own favorite spot, he’ll likely to stay there during the whole trip. Another good practice when traveling with cat is to observe proper hygiene. This will help eliminate the dreaded falling cat hair all over your vehicle. Never leave a door or window open unless you know where your pet is. Make sure that your vehicle is properly ventilated. Never leave your cat in the vehicle if the AC is not working. Poor indoor temperature can affect you and your cat’s health.

During stopovers, open the door and let your cat out for some exercise or a small walk, you may also let him have a snack. Never leave your cat unattended and make sure your cat is wearing a collar tag with your name and phone number just in case he wanders off or get lost. Beforehand, familiarize your cat with a leash. Don’t expect your cat to behave like a dog and follow you instantly. Practice makes perfect. Be patient, as soon as your cat realize that he doesn’t have any choice he will begin to follow you around with the leash. You can also set up a portable fence outside your vehicle. This will allow your cat to roam freely but with your supervision. Lastly, treat your cat as your travel buddy not just a pet you bring along for a vacation. Cuddle and talk to him. Enjoy outdoor activities with your feline friend. Your cat may not act like a man’s best friend but it can be your best travel bud on the road.

If you’re looking for a bargain, you don’t want to go for the cheapest pet insurance if it is no good at all – you want to check out the coverage the companies are offering.

The following article by Brian Garvin talks more in detail about types of insurance coverage you can expect on the different levels.

Locating the Cheapest Pet Insurance

By Brian Garvin

Locating the cheapest pet insurance is not always easy, as there are many places to look for this service. This is especially true in today’s day and age, since this insurance is available completely online and prices can be researched from the comfort of your own home.

While the additional companies that have become part of this industry might appear to make things more difficult, the opposite is actually true. It is now possible to receive pet insurance quotes online, which means that you will not have to visit any insurance offices and you will never have to speak with a salesperson before receiving your insurance.

When looking for the cheapest pet insurance, make sure that you have an idea of the services that you wish to have included. Most insurance companies offer a number of different options to their customers, with each of these options being different prices. The most basic form of insurance usually covers things like vet fees, coverage for ongoing conditions, and liability in case your pet harms someone else. In addition, many of these services include legal help for anyone whose pet is involved in an incident, since even good pets can have moments of recklessness where they do damage.

When you move up to the next level of insurance, you might not be receiving the cheapest pet insurance available, but you will receive additional coverage and financial backing. The lowest levels of insurance only cover a certain amount of your vet bills, with the upper levels of insurance covering you to a higher level financially.

This next level of insurance can also include coverage in case of theft, death from an accident, death from an illness, boarding fees, and even holiday cancellations. This is great to have because we all know that if something were to happen to a beloved pet, it would be impossible to leave on vacation immediately.

The highest level of insurance is definitely not the cheapest pet insurance, but it includes everything that you could possibly want from your insurance. This type of insurance makes sure that you will never have to pay for any sort of problem that your pet ever has, which will provide you with peace of mind. If you go with this type of insurance, you will be happy to know that it is possible to find it for a lower than average price, as long as you know where to look online.

Make sure that you look through a few different quotes before making your final decision, as this is the best way to find the cheapest pet insurance possible. There is no reason to overpay for this service at any time, since there are always other options out there. If you find that you are having problems finding a price that you can agree with, just know that there are always other options and you will definitely find a company that will keep your pet safe for a great price.

Many of us, not being vets, have trouble figuring out whether our cat has some serious health problems, or something less serious or just a mood change. You don’t want to get a vet involved if you can reasonably assume it is not necessary.

Here’s an article by CL Kerrie, that may be of help in assessing your cat’s health to some degree:

Is My Cat Ill?
By CL Kerrie

Thinking that your much loved cat might be ill is a worrying time, they can’t tell you what’s wrong and unless you’re a trained vet you’re not going to know if their illness is serious or just something simple like a common cold.

Symptoms to suggest that your cats maybe ill

If they have a complete change in behaviour such as spending even more time sleeping, being aggressive, not wanting to interact and hiding out in quiet dark areas of the house then there’s a possibility that your cat might be ill.

It’s important to think about the changes in behaviour as certain behaviours or symptoms indicate more serious illnesses such as feline diabetes. Symptoms such as increased urination, weight loss, vomiting and increased thirst would indication diabetes. But unless you’re looking closely at their behaviour you may miss the increased thirst and urination.

Keep an eye on their litter tray especially when they are using it, do they seem to be in pain when they urinate as they may have a urinary track infection that need to be dealt with immediately.

If they are healthy this will shown in their fur so if there coat isn’t as shiny as normal or they seem to be loosing a lot fur as opposed to just malting, get them checked out at the vet as it may be a sign of something more serious.

When stroking your pet pay attention to their joints as lumps on these areas could indicate serious illnesses such as cancer.

The better you know your cat the easier it will be to spot changes in behaviour and appearance and if they are ill, it will allow you to take them to the vets early and hopefully in time to deal with any serious health issues.
